Four suspects have been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly gang-raping an 11-year-old secondary school student at NNPC area of Apata, a suburb of Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt the girl was allegedly raped while she was hawking detergent for her mother.

Two men on a motorcycle had approached the girl on the pretext of buying three pieces of the product and offered the unsuspecting girl N200 for the product which costs N50 per sachet, a source said.

One of the suspects also offered her N500 after giving them the detergent and she told them she did not have change.

She was lured to a location where she would collect her money, but she declined.

“At this point, the suspects dragged the victim to an uncompleted building where two other men were.

“The girl was gang-raped by the four men last Saturday,” the source told NAN.

Contacted, the spokesman for the state police command, SP Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspects, saying investigation has commenced into the incident.

“The case was reported by the mother of the victim because of the seriousness of the crime.

“The State Police Commissioner,Mr Samuel Adegbuyi, has directed that the case should be transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department for thorough investigation.

“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” he said.
