Antonio Conte will allow Asmir Begovic to leave Chelsea, if he can find a suitable replacement for him in January.

The Italian coach is aware of Bournemouth’s interest in signing the former Stoke goalkeeper but is unwilling to sanction a move without having backup in place, with Craig Gordon mentioned as a potential option.

Begovic has grown frustrated at being behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order and is keen to leave in search of first team football.

But Conte is only willing to let him move on if he can get a suitable reserve for his Belgian No. 1.

‘I don’t know, I am happy to have Begovic. Only if we have a good substitution he can go.

‘We are open to help him, if we can replace him in the right way.

‘He’s a Chelsea player, it’s important to understand this. Begovic for me, stays. I understand [why he may want to go] but it’s important for the player to understand me and the club.

‘If it’s not possible, he will stay with us and help us until the end of the season. Then we will evaluate his season.’

Conte also confirmed that Begovic will start Chelsea’s FA Cup tie against Brentford.
